Ski Patrol director killed in avalanche

The man killed yesterday in avalanche at the Wolf Creek Ski Area was the resort's ski patrol director.
Forty-one-year-old Scott Kay died Monday, prompting the ski area to shut down for the day.
A close friend, Bob Brammer, told The Durango Herald that Kay was doing avalanche-control work when he was caught in the slide. Kay, a former Marine, was married and had two sons, ages 6 and 8.
New snow has raised the avalanche danger to high in the mountains. Another storm expected in the mountains tonight could raise the danger.
Wolf Creek is southwest part of the state in the San Juan Mountains. The resort has gotten 18 inches of snow in the last two days.
