Simple ways to help arthritis

Aging is no excuse to give up exercise. Senior health means staying active and it can only improve the way you feel.

Just take some pointers from the residents of Sunny Vista Living Center in Colorado Springs. They participate in activities like art class, to not only gives them a chance to catch up and socialize, but it also helps some of the seniors who are suffering from severe Rheumatoid Arthritis by constantly using their hands.

A horticulture class provides the same benefits. Physical Therapy Assistant Daryl Robertson says both are a great way to trick the brain into exercise.

"In physical therapy, a lot of the time... exercise is one two three four, {but} sometimes people aren't as excited about dong the exercise as a project they really put some meaning into."

Gardening is often one of the first thing seniors give up because they can no long squat or dig. Robertson says planting in containers at a table like this is a great way to continuing growing plants without giving up a hobby.
