Vitamin D may help treat allergies caused by a common mold.
Experts say the environmental mold doesn't harm the average person when it's inhaled but can cause severe allergic symptoms in both asthmatic and cystic fibrosis patients.
Researchers at Louisiana State University discovered people with this severe response had low levels of vitamin D in their blood. When they gave patients more vitamin D, the proteins causing the allergic response decreased and it boosted the body's protective effect.
