GREELEY, Colo. (AP) - Simla preserved its undefeated season with a 40-37 comeback victory over Fleming in the girls 1A championship game on Saturday.
Simla's Cubs trailed 26-16 at halftime, but they dominated the third quarter.
Simla senior guard Kristen Wilson hit a jump shot with 53 seconds remaining, and Simla blocked a three-point attempt by Fleming's Jenna Vandenbark with less than a second remaining.
Simla finishes 26-0.
GREELEY, Colo. (AP) - Caliche won its third consecutive boys 1A state championship on Saturday, overwhelming Springfield 72-47.
Caliche senior Cody Paxton, at 6-foot-5, and junior Joel Edler, 6-foot-3, dominated on rebounds.
Springfield had a brief lead of 4-2 after Max Duncan hit two free-throws, but Caliche then went on a 16-0 tear to take an 18-4 lead.
Caliche led 38-16 at halftime.
It was Springfield's first appearance in the title game in 19 years.
PUEBLO, Colo. (AP) - Sydney Bost's attempted 3-pointer missed off the rim as time expired, and No. 7 Sanford defeated No. 4 Evangelical Christian Academy 31-28 in the 2A girls state championship game Saturday.
ECA's Heidi Mann made it 29-28 with a basket with less than 30 seconds remaining. Sanford's Tori Mortensen and Whitney Canty made free throws in the final 11.7 seconds to give Sanford (22-4) the 3-point lead.
Mortensen had a game-high 14 points, all in the second half.
It's the first basketball title in Sanford's history.
Ellen Brandenstein and Mann led ECA (24-3) with 10 points apiece.
Sanford trailed 14-10 at the half but used a swarming defense to force numerous turnovers in the third quarter. Sanford outscored ECA 13-4 in the quarter and took a 23-18 lead into the fourth.
