DENVER - More than a dozen sheriffs from around Colorado held a news conference today to voice their displeasure with the recently signed state gun control laws. The elected lawmen take issue with President Obama using the Denver Police Academy as a stage to call for stricter gun laws at a national level.
The sheriffs believe the trio of new laws are flawed and unenforceable. They also say they punish law abiding gun owners in an attempt to limit gun violence.
The president is expected to make his case for universal background checks and a ban on military style firearms at the police academy at 3:00 p.m.
