Sheriff's office moving to new building

COLORADO SPRINGS - The moving trucks have arrived at the El Paso County Sheriff's Office. The sheriff is relocating most of his operations under one roof at the newly remodeled county building downtown on Vermijo Street.

Early Wednesday morning the non emergency county dispatch number 719-390-5555 will be briefly blacked out so the phone lines can be reconnected.

"We will lose that phone line for about a 20 minute period sometime between 4:00 a.m. and 5:00 a.m.," explained Public Information Officer Lt. Jeff Kramer. "If folks are trying to reach us on that line, between that particular time frame and the experience problems we want them to go ahead and use 911 to reach us."

The records section will also be closed on Thursday and Friday due to the move. They will reopen in the new building Monday morning.

The move brings together more than a dozen departments all under the same room. The Office of the Sheriff, the Patrol Division, Investigations Division, Sex Offender Management, Victim Assistance, Communications, Training, Internal Affairs, Finance, Records, Human Resources, the Concealed Handgun Program and the Research and Development office will all share the new space.

The building became available after the county consolidated many of it's offices into the new Citizens Services Center in 2011.
