Authorities say a child's body found in a Georgia landfill has been tentatively identified as that of a missing Florida girl.
Sheriff Rick Beseler says the identification was based on clothing on the body and a birthmark that matched the missing seven-year-old's. Somer Thompson vanished Monday on her way home from school after walking on ahead of her sister and other schoolmates.
The partially covered body of the child was found in a landfill near the Florida state line, after investigators followed garbage trucks leaving the Jacksonville suburb where Somer disappeared. The sheriff says he still fears for the community until a suspect is apprehended.
He wouldn't talk about what evidence has been recovered, or whether investigators think the crime was committed by one or more people.
