Pueblo Wastewater Division employees will be testing sewer lines near the State Fairgrounds the first week of June.

People who live in the area may notice smoke coming out of the sewer systems, but there's nothing to be alarmed about.

The smoke testing involves placing smoke devices in the sewers, then plugging the lines. The smoke will spread through the sewer lines and show where there might be breaks in the line.

Testing will begin around 7:30 a.m. on June 4 and continue for about a week. Letters will be sent to all area residents and businesses about the testing. There's a possibility smoke could enter buildings through old floor drains. Associate Engineer Kim Swearingen suggests pouring a little water down floor drains to seal them before the testing begins.

Anyone with questions about the smoke testing can contact the Wastewater Division at 719-553-2898.
