The Storm Prediction Center has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for far southeastern Colorado, much of New Mexico, northwest Texas, and northwest Oklahoma until 10 PM MDT.
In the News 5 viewing area, this watch includes Las Animas and Baca counties.
A Severe Thunderstorm Watch means conditions are favorable for severe thunderstorms to form. A thunderstorms is classified as "severe" if it produces winds over 58 mph, hail 1" or larger, a tornado, or any combination of those criteria.
The highest risk for severe weather will be over New Mexico this afternoon and evening, but an isolated severe thunderstorm is possible in far southeastern Colorado. Primary severe weather threats will be wind and hail.
Dangerous cloud-to-ground lightning is also possible with storms developing in Southern Colorado this afternoon. That is true for storms both in and out of the watch area.
