Services scheduled for teen killed in shooting

Funeral services have been set for a Colorado Springs teen shot and killed by her step father who may have thought she was a burglar.

14-year old Kiana O'Neil was shot early Monday morning as she was crawling through a window at a home in the 4000-block of Ascendant Dr.around 6AM. Scanner reports indicated her step father thought someone was breaking into their basement when he fired, shooting and killing O'Neil.

Sources say the step father is 2nd Lt. Daniel Meade, and Fort Carson confirmed Meade was a decorated soldier stationed there.

The District Attorney's Office is investigating the case and will determine if charges are filed.

According to an obituary posted in the Alamosa Valley Courier, a Rosary will be held this Friday at 7:00 PM at the Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Church in La Jara, just south of Alamosa. A Mass of the Resurrection will be held on Saturday at 10:00 AM also at the Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Church.

A candlelight vigil will also be held at Springs Ranch Park at the corner of Pony Tracks Dr. and Peterson Rd. in Colorado Springs on Saturday at 5:30 PM. People are being asked to wear purple, O'Neil's favorite color, and bring a candle.
