Sequester effects felt in Southern Colorado

The first effects of the sequester, $85-billion in federal spending cuts, are already being felt in Southern Colorado.
The Air Force has announced a reduction in flight hours, some units could see their time in the sky cut by as much as 18-percent. It's expected the cut will affect operational and training missions.
The famous Thunderbirds air demonstration squad is also being grounded, their 2013 season has been cancelled. The traditional flyover for graduation at the Air Force Academy won't be happening this year.
The Army is facing reductions as well, furlough notices for civilian employees should start arriving in the next few days. The 3,000 civilian workers at Fort Carson will have to take 22 furlough days amounting to a 20-percent pay cut and a possible reduction in services. Training will also be curtailed for all units except those headed to Afghanistan.
