Sentencing delayed for Colorado Springs murder accomplice

A Colorado Springs woman who pleaded guilty to being an accessory to a 2011 murder will have to wait a little longer to find out how long she'll be in prison.

Dawn Morgan admitted to helping Ernest Schmidt elude police after he shot two people, killing one, outside of the AutoZone store at Powers and Palmer Park boulevards in July of 2011. Schmidt was caught and pleaded guilty to first-degree murder last January.

Morgan was scheduled to be sentenced on Thursday afternoon, but prosecutors asked to reschedule until after the Jan. 28 trial of Frani Olivas, who has also been charged as an accessory. As part of Morgan's plea agreement she will testify at the trial and prosecutors wished to wait for sentencing until she had testified. At the hearing on Thursday Morgan's attorney said she wished to be sentenced immediately, but agreed to the delay.

Morgan is now scheduled to be sentenced on Feb. 21.
