Carol Krebs' bedroom windows are in bad shape. "I stick rags all the way around (this one), because the water pours in," said Krebs. She says some of them are broken or won't close all the way--letting in a draft each night. "Right now it's really cold because of the windows," said Krebs.
Krebs, who is 78-years old and totally blind lives on a fixed income. She says she can't afford to replace them. "If I had enough money for extra I could do that, but my money mainly is for my utilities and my house payment," said Krebs.
Krebs covers her windows each night to stay warm. "I put a rag over it and a bed spread over it and another blanket on top, but you can't still feel the air though," said Krebs.
The Senior Resource Development Agency heard about Krebs situation and wanted to help. Glora Vadlez, with SRDA says she called some companies to see how much it would cost to replace the windows. One company quoted her $1,300. Valdez says Krebs can't afford that, and now SRDA is hoping someone will make a donation to help Krebs.
"There's a lot of need in the community, but what makes Carol unique, she is here alone, she's on a very fixed income, she doesn't ask for a lot, she makes do with a lot of things," said Gloria Valdez. "But there comes a point when you're elder, you're on a fixed income... and sometimes you think, you know sometimes someone needs a break," she added.
