Secret millionaire gives fortune to alma mater

She lived in a one bedroom house, shopped at rummage sales and worked at the same job for 43 years before retiring.

Grace Groner saved her money. Over the years she made small donations to a scholarship fund at her alma mater, Lake Forest College. When she passed away in January at age 100 she left them more money--$7 million.

The source of her wealth was a $180 stock purchase she made in 1935. She reinvested the dividends, allowing the fortune to grow.

The college will use the money for internships and study-abroad programs.
