While securing a scene at around 1:53 am Sunday and sitting in a Police patrol cruiser blocking a through lane of northbound N. Union Blvd., a man suspected of driving under the influence rammed into the officer's vehicle. The suspect was driving approximately 30mph when he hit rear of the police cruiser. The officer seated inside had his emergency lights on and was in the middle of the roadway in plain sight.
While other officers on scene rushed to render aide to the officer in the hit vehicle, the suspect fled the scene in his vehicle which was located several minutes later. The suspect was located and taken into custody without further incident. The suspect later identified as 26 year old David Kenney was arrested and charged with multiple offenses including DUI , Assault on a Police Officer and Vehicular Eluding.
The officer sustained minor injuries as a result of the traffic accident and was treated and released from the hospital.
