Second arrest made in dog dragging death

A second arrest has been made in the case of a Blue Heeler/German Shepherd mix dragged to his death last week in Colorado National Monument near Grand Junction.

32-year old Melissa Lockhart of Fruita is accused of stealing the dog, named "Buddy", and another dog from a pickup truck in Delta on December 29th.  “Buddy” was found dead with a rope around his neck  early on December 30th  authorities believe the animal was dragged two miles . 

Lockhart is the sister of 37-year old Steven Romero who is being held on charges of dragging "Buddy" to death.

Romero was in court yesterday and the judge said that a defense attorney would be appointed in the case. Romero is being held without bond at the Mesa County Jail and will be back in court on January 7th.   Lockhart is free on a 5-thousand dollar bond.
