Officials have suspended their search for a missing hiker in Custer County, near Westcliffe.
Mark Stice, of Arvada, was first reported missing last Saturday by his wife after not returning from a camping trip. His vehicle and a fishing rod were found near a trailhead outside Westcliffe, but Custer County search crews say they were not able to find any other clues to help them find Stice. Searchers say they spent 8 days looking for Stice, but had to endure difficult terrain, snowfall, ice, and freezing temperatures.
Stice was reportedly an experienced hiker, but he did not leave a detailed itinerary for family members, and was not carrying a cell phone or emergency locator beacon.
