Search continues for couple in Monument death case

As investigators look for answers in the discovery of a young girls body in Monument, two former residents of the home where she was found have been hard to come by. Monique Lynch and Hanif Sims lived in the house for a short time with their children, one of which was around the age of the girl found in the basement. "We're interested in speaking to them pertaining to their occupancy at that particular residence and based on no the fact that we do have information to believe that there were children that were with them at the time." explains Lt, Lari Sevene with the El Paso County Sheriff's Office.

Recently a nation wide alert was sent out to find the couple, both for the investigation here and arrest warrants in New Jersey. "Lynch's warrant is for a probation violation for dangerous drugs. Sims' warrant is a weapons violation." says Sevene.

Our partners at the Gazette report their last know whereabouts were in California where the two were staying at a homeless shelter and then an apartment. Police there checked but have been unable to find them. While investigators aren't yet calling the couple suspects in the case, they do say finding them is critical. "We're interested in speaking to them pertaining to their occupancy at that particular residence and based on no the fact that we do have information to believe that there were children that were with them at the time." says Sevene. Lieutenant Sevene tells News First 5 it may be several weeks before more is known about the autopsy results.
