The Air Force Academy is hosting a boot camp for teachers this week. It concentrates on instruction in science, technology, engineering and mathmatics.

The camp starts Wednesday and runs through Friday. It's designed for all high school science, math and pre-engineering teachers in Southern Colorado, and gives them the knowledge, materials, experience and confidence to put space-related content into their daily math and science lessons.

Teachers receive focused, integrated and user-friendly course materials, textbooks, lesson plans, orbital simulation software, and workbooks. Teachers will put these lessons to use, through a series of systems engineering exercises, a geo cache exercise, and will even build and launch their own rockets here.

In addition, each school or district sending three or more teachers will receive $1,000 in classroom tools.

The seminar is underwritten by the National Defense Education Program via the Air Force Academy and by the American Institute for Aeronautics and Astronautics, the Federal Aviation Administration, NASA, and the U.S. Navy. Local sponsors and partners include Peak Area Leadership in Science, Cool Science, and UCCS.
