Schools close as South braces for rare snow storm

Predictions of an inch of snow are enough to shut down schools in the Florida Panhandle.

A storm system that left more than a foot of snow in the Dallas area will brush by the Sunshine State as it brings snow to the South. Winter storm warnings span the Gulf Coast states. Snow was falling early today from Texas to Louisiana. The storm is expected to crawl all the way to South Carolina.

Forecasters say up to 4 inches of snow is expected along parts of South Carolina's coast, including in Charleston, which hasn't seen snow in 10 years. As much as 3 inches could hit Savannah, Ga., where snow was last traced in 1996.
