Quick thinking and diligence may have averted a tragedy Thursday afternoon. At approximately 2:55pm Thursday Security Staff from Wasson High School identified a man across the street from school grounds who was acting suspiciously. Upon contacting the School Resource Officer the Security Team and SRO were able to identify the suspect as a former student from the school who had warrants already pending for possession of firearms on school grounds. The SRO contacted CSPD Patrol officers and directed them in to contact the suspect who was taken into custody at gun point across the street from the school offices.
When officers took the suspect into custody they recovered and secured a sawed off shotgun that was concealed down a pant leg. It is unknown at this time what the intent was that the suspect had, but quick and decisive action may have averted a tragedy.
The suspect, a minor, was arrested for the following charges; Possession of weapons by previous offenders and unlawfully carrying a concealed weapon.
The suspect also had an outstanding warrant for probation violation for failure to appear on a charge of weapons on school grounds.
