Alleged scammer sought

The Colorado Springs Police Department wants help in finding a man responsible for a scam back in 2007.  Mathew Mantanona, 25, is described as a white man, 5' 7" and about 215 pounds.

He's wanted for computer crimes and theft.  According to police Mantanona listed a piece of heavy equipment for sale on an internet site.  He sold it for $30,000, but never delivered the machine.  A warrant was issued for Mantanona in 2009, but so far he hasn't been arrested.

If anyone has information about this suspect or his whereabouts, they should contact the Colorado Springs Police Department at 719.444.7000, or they may remain anonymous and perhaps earn a cash reward by calling Pikes Peak Area Crime Stoppers at 719.634.STOP (7867).

The CSPD and Financial Crimes Detectives would also like to warn the public of the following various frauds being perpetrated in our area. These include: Auction fraud, counterfeit cashier's checks, debt elimination scams, pyramid schemes and more.

More information is available from The Better Business Bureau, FBI, and the Federal Trade Commission
