The high school graduating class of 2012 had the worst SAT reading scores in 40 years.
Colorado students did far better than the national average. The higher scores within the state are attributed to the ACT being more popular because high school juniors are required to take the ACT. They scored an average of 20, which is below the national average of 21.1.
Nationwide, it's estimated 75-percent of students who took the ACT failed to meet college readiness standards.
