The Colorado Springs Office of Emergency Management and the non-profit group Colorado Springs Together will distribute free sandbags this Saturday, September 1, to homeowners living in high risk flood zones near the Waldo Canyon Burn Area.
The sandbags can be picked up at the Verizon Wireless building, 2424 Garden of the Gods Roads from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. There will volunteers on hand to help fill and load the sandbags into cars. Homeowners are encouraged to enter the parking lot from Flying W Ranch Road.
The sandbags should not be placed in the public right-of-way. The City of Colorado Springs has posted information online regarding the increased potential for flooding and how to best mitigate the threat.
