The Medano Fire, at the Great Sand Dunes National Park grew slightly Thursday. It now covers 5,417 acres, an increase in one day of 84 acres.

Weather continues to be hot and dry. Firefighters are working on two fire lines; one on the north side of the fire, one on the east, where it has encroached into the San Isabel National Forest.

There are now about 330 firefighters on scene.

The fire started on June 6 by lightning and for the most part is being allowed to burn itself out.
