Christmas came early for hundreds of needy families in Pueblo. On Thursday, the Salvation Army of Pueblo held its annual toy and food giveaway. Over the past couple of weeks they've been collecting donated gifts for families with children, that can't afford christmas. In all--they received enough clothes, toys and other gifts to help 850 children.
"I'm just on a simple little income and sometime I can't make ends meet," said Emma Perez, a grandmother who raises her three grandchildren. "(The Salvation Army) helps me out with the food pantry when I'm in need and they help me every Christmas with the gifts--otherwise my kids probably wouldn't have a Christmas," she added.
The Salvation Army of Pueblo gives adults the gifts--so they can be the ones to give their children the presents.
The families also received a food box, which included a turkey or ham, plus bread and other fixings.
