New businesses are opening and staying open in Pueblo's Union Avenue Historic District, but sales tax numbers haven't improved. The City of Pueblo reports sales tax revenue was down last December in the historic shopping district by about 2.5% from December of 2008.

However, at least four new businesses have opened along Union in recent months, including Bello Fashions and The Ten Spot II. The Pueblo Chamber of Commerce says that's positive news during a recession. "It is excellent to see that, that's just great, we feel very fortunate in Pueblo that our numbers have been able to say up through the recession," said Rob Slyhoff, President of the Pueblo Chamber of Commerce.

There's also new growth on Union Ave. A new building has been built near the site, where the Branch Inn exploded in 2008. The building is for lease and is designated for office or retail space.
