A hotel representative says the Sahara hotel-casino is mothballing rooms in two of its towers for the winter season due to low demand.

Los Angeles-based SBE Entertainment owns the 1,720-room Las Vegas Strip property, which first opened in 1952. The hotel says through a publicist that the two oldest towers of the Las Vegas Strip hotel will remain shuttered until business improves.

Spokeswoman Verena King says the casino and main Tangiers tower remain open and reservations are still being taken. King says she doesn't know if staff members will face layoffs.

The announcement comes a day after Binion's Gambling Hall & Hotel in downtown Las Vegas closed its 365 rooms and cut 100 jobs as a cost-cutting move. Binion's casino remains open.
