Rafting is a fun, outdoor activity southern Colorado is known for, but after Tuesday's fatal accident in which a 48-year-old man died when his raft flipped over in the Arkansas River, rafting companies want you to be aware of safety precautions.
They encourage you to always wear a life jacket and helmet - it could help you stay above water if you fall out of the raft.
"The water right now is high and cold and high water means it's moving fast," says Dennis Wied, owner of Raft Masters in Canon City. "If you're not comfortable around fast moving water stay with people who know what they're doing."
He stresses rafting is a real outdoor adventure and part of that adventure is that anything can happen. To help prepare passengers for the trip, he gives an extensive safety talk beforehand.
Weid says it's best to raft with people who are knowledgeable about the sport.
