COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (AP) - So Yeon Ryu won the U.S. Women's Open in a playoff Monday, defeating rival South Korean Hee Kyung Seo by three shots in a three-hole playoff to capture the championship.
Ryu returned to the course needing a birdie over the last three holes of regulation to tie Seo, who had finished a day earlier at 3-under 281. Ryu made the birdie on No. 18, then began the playoff
about a half-hour later.
After trading pars on No. 16, Ryu teed off down the center of the 17th fairway and Seo hit her shot into a bunker on the right side. Ryu made birdie and Seo made bogey for the two-shot
difference. Ryu hit her approach to four feet on No. 18 for another birdie.
Ryu became the fifth South Korean to win the U.S. Women's Open.
