Run errands today--state offices closed tomorrow

State parks will be open, but their visitor centers are among facilities that will be closed Friday for the second of four furlough days of many state government offices.

Gov. Bill Ritter ordered the four furlough days earlier this year to save $13.6 million in the face of a budget shortfall. The first furlough day was Sept. 8, affecting about 15,500 of the state's roughly 29,000 employees. The next ones are Friday, Nov. 27 and Dec. 31.

State troopers will still work Friday, and the state unemployment benefits office, state nursing homes and hospitals, and state courts are among facilities that will still be open. Driver's license offices will be closed.

The state still faces a $240 million budget deficit amid falling tax revenue.
