It is time to put the trauma of wildfire behind at the Royal Gorge Bridge and Park. Rebuilding the park around the historical bridge starts after architects and designers are selected later this week. "The design will start next week and they'll start moving dirt probably the following week," said park Vice President and General Manager, Mike Bandera.
Plans to bring visitors back are on a fast track. In the next couple of weeks the park will likely open for people who want to drive across the bridge. "So people can take a look at what happened there because the curiosity has been great."
They will drive in the north entrance and have to exit on the south side of the bridge.
There is also an expedited approach planned for redevelopment of amenities and amusement attractions that surround the bridge. "The target is mid May to have the first phase of the park ready to go for full operation," said Bandera.
