Roses are red...and they taste good, too!

Ecuador has long been a major producer of flowers, now marketers are exploring a new idea--roses on dinner plates, instead of in vases.

Restaurants from New York to Beijing are trying to attract customers with novelty dishes. Many of those dishes contain organic rose petals grown in Ecuador. In Quito, a chef at the Zazu restaurant says his customers like dishes with roses. Per Se in New York and El Bulli in Barcelona have developed dishes with roses.

The roses are grown in Ecuador's Pujili region, a mountainous area with intense sunlight. Ecuador exported $600 million worth of flowers last year.

If you're thinking of snacking on some roses from you garden--feel free. We did a web search for you and found out that roses are in the same family as apples. All rose petals and rosehips are edible, but not all taste good. Generally speaking, the darker the color, the more intense the flavor.
