Romanoff to run for Senate

Former Colorado Speaker of the House, Andrew Romanoff, announced Monday that he will challenge Senator Michael Bennet in the 2010 Democratic primary.
Romanoff said in a email sent Monday afternoon that he had filed his paperwork with the Federal Election Commission to run for the Senate.
Prior to Governor Bill Ritter's appointment of Bennet, Romanoff was considered by political pundits as a front runner to fill Ken Salazar seat. Due to term limits, Romanoff didn't run for re-election in 2008.
The email says Romanoff plans to formally announce his decision at a state wide campaign kick-off Wednesday at 10:00 a.m. at the Lake Elizabeth Pavilion at Pueblo Riverwalk. He'll make a stop at the Carnegie Room of the Penrose Library in Colorado Springs at 1:00 p.m.
