Rocky Mountain State Games sets new participation record

Colorado Springs, July 24----------- The Rocky Mountain State Games has established a new record for athlete registrations in its 12th year under the leadership of the Colorado Springs Sports Corporation.

As of Wednesday morning, a total of 7,737 athletes have signed up to compete in the 36-sport event, the state's largest Sports Festival, eclipsing the old mark of 7,103 set in 2012.

 

Leaders:

Color In Motion 5K Run: 2,250

Cycling: 1,265

Dog Agility: 500

Basketball: 481

Swimming: 460

Softball: 351

Inline Hockey: 304

Triathlon: 250

Volleyball: 242

Track & Field: 230

 

Still remaining to add to the record total will be day-of-event registration in several sports, meaning the final tally will reach 8,000 athletes.

Sports where athletes can sign up this weekend on the day of the event are: Track & Field (which already has 230 entries) Indoor Volleyball, Ultimate Frisbee, Rock Climbing, Shooting, BMX (which expects over 300), Bowling, Billiards, Archery, and Arm Wrestling. Figure Skating (Sept. 11-15) is expecting some 300 entries alone.
