Rocky Mountain State Games set athlete participation record

Colorado Springs, August 19----------Records are made to be broken, and the 2013 edition of the Rocky Mountain State Games, the state's largest Sports Festival, made it a reality this summer.

A total of 9,312 athletes from 90 Colorado cities and towns, plus competitors from several other states in select sports, took part in the 12th Rocky Mountain State Games conducted by the Colorado Springs Sports Corporation.

The Games were held over the last two weekends of July, with the Opening Celebration, Olympic Downtown Celebration and State Games torch lighting taking place on July 26, along with the Color In Motion 5K Run.

The record turnout shattered the previous mark of 7,103 athletes who competed in the 2012 Games in Colorado Springs, led by the whopping turnout of 2,754 entries in the popular Colorado In Motion 5k Run on July 26.

"We are delighted with the record turnout for our Games," said Sports Corp President and CEO Tom Osborne. "We felt we had a very attractive schedule of 36 events for athletes to choose from, and obviously, a whole lot of amateur athletes of all ages and skill levels felt the same. We had a lot of fun over the two weekends and the response we have received from the athletes has been extremely positive. We look forward to another great State Games next summer."
