Roberts Ranch owner makes offer to Larimer County

LOVELAND, Colorado (AP) - The owner of the 16,500-acre Roberts Ranch near Livermore is offering to give the property to Larimer County.

The Loveland Reporter-Herald reports ( the cattle ranch is already protected from development by two conservation easements, but county ownership could allow for more public access to the property.

The county's open lands program manager Kerri Rollins says ranch owner Catherine Roberts wants to live on the property but otherwise is offering the county the entire ranch, including the cows, buildings and equipment. The county would be responsible for the property's upkeep.

Rollins says Roberts' stepson, Derek Roberts, is contesting the proposal.

The county's Open Lands Board in January is scheduled to take up the question of whether to accept the donation.
