Colorado Springs police tell News First 5 that 52 homes were burglarized and 4 businesses robbed in the first week of August.

Year to date 1,468 homes in Coloirado Springs have been burglarized this year. That's up 8% over the same time period last year when there were 1, 354.

So far this year 123 businesses have been robbed, up 33% from 2009 when there were 92 in the same time period.

Police are asking the community to remain vigilant and if you see a crime happening try to be a good witness, but do not put yourself in harms way. If possible they ask that you try to identify unique characteristics about the suspects, "such as a tattoo, or a scar," said CSPD Sgt. Steve Noblitt.

They also recommend businesses invest in security cameras.
