A week after Rick's Garden Center was victimized by an elaborate shoplifting ring, owner Mike Estes is still looking for answers. "They just grabbed them only about 15 feet from the front door and they were out."
Security footage show thieves split up while one snatched equipment often used in the production of marijuana. Then they left right out the front door. Estes says more people have been in search of the lights and generators used to grow marijuana. "In the last year we've really seen a focus on people coming in and asking for the lights." he explains, "Many of them will state that it's for that purpose (production of marijuana)."
Despite a sophisticated security system at Rick's, Estes has said they've had to take things even further to make sure a crime like this doesn't happen again. "Unfortunately we've had to keep a closer eye on folks." he says, "We can't assume everyone who walks through the door is going to be an honest person."
Recently an anonymous person has offered a reward for the capture of the thieves on Craigslist. Estes appreciates the outpouring of support from the community and says he wants the suspects found before they victimize someone else. "It's not so much about the money value of how much they stole." he explains "I would just like to see these people captured."
