DURANGO, Colo. (AP) - A retired postal worker in Durango has been sentenced to 60 days in jail for spitting his own feces at a police officer.

Sixty-two-year-old Paul Kausalik apologized to the officer and his family Friday when he was sentenced. The officer wasn't in the courtroom.

Kausalik was facing up to two years in jail after spitting feces at Officer Chad Langley Feb. 12. Kausalik was being held on suspicion of drunk driving and asked to use the restroom. Langley twice found Kausalik asleep in the bathroom and woke him up. Kausalik later exited the bathroom, walked up to Langley and spit fecal matter, hitting the officer's face.

The Durango Herald reports Kausalik pleaded guilty to drunken driving and did not contest a charge of felony assault on a police officer.
