BURLINGTON, Colo. (AP) - The Colorado Division of Wildlife is lifting limits on fish caught at Bonny Reservoir in northeastern Colorado as the state prepares to drain the reservoir.
The limits will be lifted starting May 1. Bonny reservoir will be drained to comply with a compact with Kansas and Nebraska on use of the Republican River.
Farmers in the area have urged legislators to drain Bonny Reservoir to reduce the number of wells that will have to be shut off to comply with the compact. State officials say as a result, most of the fish likely will be lost.
State wildlife officials say the overall number of sport fish in the Bonny Reservoir is good. Some might be moved to other reservoirs.
