Researchers focus on bacterial link to obesity

Germs that make their home in your gut could be causing you to overeat. That's the conclusion of a study released Thursday.

Researchers at Emory University in Atlanta have made the link, while trying to figure out the problem of obesity. Turns out that modern advances could be making us sick. Things like antibiotics that wipe out good bacteria and access to clean water that lessens our exposure to helpful bacteria.

Without those bacteria in the gut, people feel hungry even when they've had plenty to eat. Researchers are now trying to identify the micro-organisms involved.

The research is published in the journal Science.
