Report on Colo. medical pot industry to be released today

DENVER (AP) - Colorado took a hard look at the agency that oversees marijuana sales this spring. Now state auditors are looking at the health department, which oversees the medical marijuana patient registry.

Pot is now legal for everyone over 21 in Colorado, but the state still maintains medical-marijuana registry. An audit to be released Monday will examine the Colorado Department of Health and Environment, which oversees the registry.

In March, Colorado auditors gave blistering criticism to the Department of Revenue, which regulates pot shops and makes sure they pay their appropriate taxes. That audit accused the Revenue department of overspending on things like cars and office furniture, then running out of money to enforce marijuana production.
