CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (AP) - Federal charges have been filed against relatives of a man accused in the slaying of a Chattanooga police officer.

Colorado fugitive Jesse R. Matthews has been accused in the Saturday shooting death of Chattanooga police Sgt. Tim Chapin during a robbery attempt.
Matthews remains in a Chattanooga hospital.

U.S. Attorney Bill Killian said Friday that Matthews' mother, father and sister and the sister's boyfriend have been arrested on charges that include firearms violations and accessory after the fact to a robbery in Colorado.

Initial court appearances were set Friday afternoon before a federal magistrate in Chattanooga. Killian said the government will oppose any bond. The four facing charges are the fugitive's parents, Kathleen and Ray Matthews; sister Rachel Mathews of Asheville, N.C.; and James Poteete of Middle Tennessee.
