Red flag warnings mean fire crews depend on each other more

On days when there are red flag warnings, firefighters spend a little extra time prepping.

Multiple fire departments responded to the fire on Mt. Herman and Red Rocks in Palmer Lake on Wednesday afternoon. Fire crews say that is typical on red flag days.

"That's pretty common," says Luke Jones, a firefighter in Colorado Springs. "You'll have an incident like you saw today where three, four, or five different agencies are out
there working in tandem together."

Jones says you shouldn't be surprised if you see consecutive red flag warning days in the summer.
