Red Canyon Fire grows to 350 acres, evacuations in place

A wildfire in Garfield County has grown to 350 acres and has prompted the evacuation of 15. Twenty structures are threatened.

Evacuations have been ordered east of the fire and north to Interstate-70. People will be evacuated to the Carbondale High School with animals going to the Garfield County Fairgrounds.

The fire went from 3 acres Monday afternoon to 150 acres by Monday evening. Tuesday evening, Garfield County Sheriff's Office said the fire is estimated at 350 acres with 10 percent containment.

The fire and smoke is visible from Glenwood Springs and Carbondale.

There is one heavy and one SEAT providing an air attack. There are 60 men and women on the ground fighting the flames also.

A pre-evacuation alert has been sent to some people in the Christeleit subdivision. Currently, the fire has zero containment.
