Pueblo residents have a way to get rid of that used cooking oil after Thanksgiving, without causing problems to their sewer drains. Just recycle it.
City and county residents can drop off their used cooking oil, including fats, oils and grease (vegetable and animal) at no cost from November 26, 2010 through January 3, 2011 at the following locations during regular business hours:
Used cooking oil should be brought in a sealed container (Tupperware/coffee can/etc.). The container can then be emptied and returned to the resident. Improper disposal of used cooking oil is costly to homeowners, commercial establishments and government agencies. Pouring it down the drain is a leading cause of sewer backups for homes and businesses.
Cooking oil can be converted by professional recyclers and bio-refineries into viable resources such as biodiesel. For more information, call the Pueblo City-County Health Department's Recycle Hotline at 719-583-4924.
