Record number of athletes to compete at State Games

A record number of athletes have signed up for this year's Rocky Mountain State Games.

7,737 people have already signed up, and organizers say day-of registrations could put them over the 8,000 mark!

This beats last year's record of just over 7,100 competitors.

8 new events were added to the roster this year because organizers are trying to appeal to a wide variety of athletes.    Dog agility, ultimate frisbee, and skateboarding are some of the new events that are getting a lot of participants.

Join Channel 5 Friday evening as we kick off the games with a downtown Olympic celebration.
