Recalled spreads, dips could cause miscarriage

Dips and spreads sold in Colorado are possibly contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes, an organism that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, the elderly and others with weakened immune systems. Most people suffer only short-term symptoms but Listeria also causes miscarriages and stillbirths.

The suspect products were sold under the Parker Farms or Parkers labels at Safeway and Whole Foods stores in Colorado. The company is recalling all products, regardless of codes, to make sure that all potentially contaminated food is recovered.

Here is a complete list of recalled products:

12oz Organic Peanut Butter (creamy, crunchy, honey creamy, honey crunchy) with sell by dates on or before 12/31/2010

16oz All Natural Peanut Butter (creamy, crunchy, honey creamy, honey crunchy) with sell by dates on or before 12/31/2010

34oz All Natural Peanut Butter (creamy, crunchy) will sell by dates on or before 9/30/2010

8oz, 12oz, 16oz Cheese Cups (Sharp cheddar, Port Wine, Bacon, Swiss/Almond, Swiss/Cheddar, Garlic, Onion, Horseradish, Smoked/Cheddar) with sell by dates on or before 12/31/2010

16oz and 32oz Salsa (mild, hot, roasted garlic, black bean, fire roasted) with sell by dates on or before 4/30/2010

14oz Salsa Con Queso with sell by dates on or before 9/30/2010

12oz Pimento and Jalapeno Spread with sell by dates on or before 9/30/2010

7oz Cream Cheese Spread (Wildberry, Honey Walnut, Garden Veggie, Strawberry, Apple Cinnamon) with sell by dates on or before 6/30/2010

8oz Garlic and Jalapeno Cheese Log/roll with sell by dates on or before 01/05/2011

9oz Cheese Balls and Logs (Chorizo, Jajik, Spinach, Beer Cheese, Pimento) with sell by dates on or before 01/05/2011

10oz Cheese Balls and Logs (Sharp Cheddar, Port Wine, Smokey Bacon, Cheddar Ranch) with sell by dates on or before 01/05/2011

5#, 5.5#, 10#, 30# Cold Pack Cheese (Sharp cheddar, Port Wine, Bacon, Swiss/Almond, Swiss/Cheddar, Garlic, Onion, Horseradish, Smoked/Cheddar) with sell by dates on or before 9/30/2010

Symptoms of Listeria include high fever, severe headaches, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea.
