COLORADO SPRINGS- Car enthusiasts and children got a once in a lifetime opportunity to view and ride in a Maverick LSA flying car Saturday afternoon.

It's one of three in the United States that can drive and fly---though it stayed on the ground today.

While it was used this afternoon as a "showcase" item, its purpose is to provide aid and resources during a disaster or time of need in hard to reach areas.

"The idea is to go beyond roads," Raymond Siebring said. "We'll be using it to fly medical supplies and humanitarian aid in places that roads don't reach."

The Maverick LSA can travel 450 miles on one tank of gas and fly for roughly 3 hours.

They cost just under $100,000 and have already been certified by the FAA.
